Database Development and Maintenance Services
DSCI's database and information systems engineering services automate the
way our customers do business. We place a strong emphasis on
requirements specification, since the basis for a successful system lies in
the correct identification and validation of system and user requirements.
The cornerstone of our approach is frequent interaction with the customer
throughout the database project lifecycle.
Our
database teams understand the art and technology of successfully
developing and implementing your database.

Our database technicians
use the latest technology to program, customize and field your
database. This includes implementing basic and complex
functionalities, adding security features, and resolving multi-user
issues in LAN and WAN environments. |
Art as a science is not
a contradiction in terms. The science of human factors captures the
"art" of database design. Issues related to the graphical user
interface - such as the proper placement of database elements and the use
of color - ensure your completed database will meet the needs of the user
community. This is especially important in the design of databases
with complex functionality. The end objective of the art of database
design is to take technical functionality and transform it into a more
intuitive experience for end users. |
We
are proud to present you with this sampling of recent database projects
that demonstrate the depth and breadth of our experience and capabilities:

Item Tracking |
|
This database was designed for a large program to track all requests
to change project documentation. The database captures the
type of request and key milestones in the document review and
approval cycle.
Members of DSCI's database team were selected to identify and
capture database requirements. DSCI evaluated the
functionality and usability of the database and reported recommended
changes to the developer. After early builds of the database,
DSCI took-over as developer and performed major upgrades. |
|
These databases, designed to help teams maintain accountability for
individual tasks, are a DSCI signature. The databases
capture team member assignments for small and large teams. Customers are able to streamline the process for assigning and
tracking action items related to project goals. Data such as
important dates and completion metrics can be archived and used to
prepare and deliver critical progress reports. Individual team
members can query the database to prepare personal work schedules
based on priority. |

Training Database |
|
The
Federal Aviation Administration required a database tool to track
reported problems and necessary enhancements on a major air traffic
control system. The system is fielded at 20 sites around the
country, and there was no central information repository for
resolutions to trouble reports and change requests. |
|
Managers of a mid-sized organization needed to track several aspects
of staff training. Not only did the managers want to capture
the training needs of the organization, but also keep an archive of
training actually received. The resultant database is used as
a budgeting tool to ensure training needs are appropriately
accounted for in the program's annual budget. |

Information Security Library Database |
|
DSCI designed, developed, populated, and maintained this database
tool. It was used by a major government program as a
management support tool for performance analysis of Aviation
Security Explosives Detection Systems. We performed the
requirement definition, development, and implementation using
Microsoft®
Access to automate, consolidate, and manipulate financial and
statistical data that was transmitted from operational airport
facilities. |
|
DSCI is the Prime Contractor on a major support effort to the FAA's
Information Systems Security Division. The technical and
program management support includes full lifecycle documentation.
We developed and implemented the Library Database to manage the
configuration and access rights to dozens of security policies,
processes, plans, and other artifacts. |
