Systems Engineering Services
As systems
engineers, DSCI has defined requirements for and guided the engineering
of systems, while ensuring
these systems meet the needs of the end-users and stakeholders. DSCI has
been an integral part of many different customer project management
teams, and has played a key role in keeping projects on course by guiding
engineering execution, evaluating technical results, and prescribing
corrective actions.
DSCI has effectively led the formative stage (concept development) of
new system design and development, which culminates in a functional
design of the system that reflects end-users needs. Our role during
these stages is to bridge the traditional engineering disciplines. By
looking across the different engineering disciplines and balancing the
input from these disciplines, we can ensure the final system design is
technically sound, meets end-user needs, and can be implemented in a
cost-effective manner. This is especially important when dealing with
new technologies.
As systems engineers, we focus on the
system as a whole and emphasize its total operation. Emphasis is placed
not only with the engineering design of the system, but also with the
external factors that significantly influence the design, which include:
●
Soliciting and capturing the
end-user and stakeholder needs
●
Recognizing the
constraints placed on the system design due to the operational
environment
●
Defining the system’s
performance, technical, and engineering requirements
●
Identifying and defining the
interfaces to other systems
●
Recognizing the capabilities of
the operating personnel and establishing the Man-Machine interface
requirements
●
Establishing the training
requirements that help to ensure the correct use and operation of
systems deployed by the TSA
●
Documenting the logistical
support requirements
●
Defining the required system
Reliability, Maintainability, and Availability (RMA)
●
To document these items, the
DSCI has developed and maintained system Concept of Operations (CONOPS)
and Operational Requirements Documents (ORD)
